BF Quiz User Guide

BF Quiz – User Guide

How to setup a new Quiz

The first step is to create your Quiz category.

The category field determines which quiz each question will appear in.

You can add more categories via BF Quiz->Categories

Give your quiz a title, and make sure it is published.

Note: The standard Joomla! Categories page has a lot more options and fields, however none of these are used by BF Quiz.

Your new quiz should now appear in the category drop down.

Adding questions to a Quiz

The category field determines which quiz the question will appear in.

Choose your question type, and fill out the appropriate fields. For more information about question types, please refer to “More about Question Types”.

Help text is optional, but can be used to display text, images, Video and Audio.

For each question, you need to indicate which is the correct answer, and the associated score. Note you can have more than one correct answer, each with a different score (eg. Answer may be partially correct and you want to award less marks than fully correct option).

Score is an integer, so must not contain decimal places.

Option Suffix allows you to add text for display after all options. Suffix text will not be saved into database.

Option prefix allows you to add text for display for all options. Prefix text will not be saved into database.

Setting up a menu item

There are three front end menu types

Give your menu item a title, and select the Category in Parameters (Basic). Each category is a different quiz.

One Question Per Page View

This view is compatible with Bigo CAPTCHA, and will show one question per page with a “next” button and a progress bar. This view also allows you to use conditional branching to skip questions.

All questions on one page view

This will show all questions, one after the other.

Stats view

This view allows you to display quiz statistics on the front end of your site.

Menu Item Parameters

There are a number of parameters you can set to customize the Quiz for your site. Each menu item has it’s own parameters, so you can have multiple quizzes on your site each with different settings.

If “Show Results” is set to Yes, at the end of the quiz the score will be shown. Thank you message at end of survey can also be configured in the menu item’s parameters (Component).

If “Show Incorrect” is set to yes in the menu item’s Parameters (Component), at the end of the quiz incorrect answers and their solution is shown.

Radio

Horizontal radio options

Default (no) will show each option on one line.

Horizontal set to yes will show all options horizontally.

Mandatory

For radio questions, you must install (and publish) a free optional extra plug-in BF Validate.

If question is mandatory and user leaves it blank, the options will turn red and they will see a message box warning.

Text of this message box can be set in the menu item’s parameters (Component)

Text

Unlike radio question type, text allows user to type in their answer, which is compared to the value of option1.

Answer is NOT case sensitive, but must be spelt exactly the same to match and be correct. Can also be used to collect numeric answers, such as the result of a calculation.
